Engineer, Certification & Continued Airworthiness


SUMMARY: This engineering level is responsible for coordinating the activities of the engineering department to design, develop, manufacture, and test components, products, and systems. Conducts analytical studies on engineering proposals to develop design for products. Responsible for the FAA certification program and control and configuration of all certification data by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates. Strong technical, project management and communication skills required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Analyze research data and proposed product specifications to determine feasibility of product proposal.

 

  • Confer with research personnel to clarify or resolve problems and develops design.

 

  • Review products or system layouts and detailed drawings and schematics.

 

  • Coordinate manufacturing or building of prototype product or system.

 

  • Plan and develop experimental test programs.

 

  • Analyze test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications.

 

  • Prepare design modifications, evaluate engineering test results.

 

  • Departmental activities to design new products, modify existing designs, improve production techniques, and develop test procedures.

 

  • Resolving problems using solutions that involve new techniques, technologies, or concepts.

 

  • Analyzing technology trends, human resource needs, and market demand to plan projects.

 

  • Conferring with management, production, and marketing staff to determine engineering feasibility, cost effectiveness, and customer demand for new and existing products.

 

  • Forecasting operating costs of department and preparation of budget requests.

 

  • Advising management of new developments which may affect profit, schedule, costs, customer relations, and/or inter-departmental relations.

 

  • Providing direction and example for interpretation and application of company policies and procedures to the engineering activities.

 

  • Coordinates with FAA and/or foreign civil airworthiness authorities as required.

 

  • Maintain appropriate separation between company certification and FAA designee support activities.

 

  • Maintaining a working knowledge of new technologies which may improve operations, and develops recommendations accordingly.

 

  • Maintaining a working knowledge of safety policies and regulations to ensure duties of self and others are performed in a safe manner.

 

  • Other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. A minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering coupled with 8+ years of equivalent experience and training is desired. A concentration in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering is preferred. FAA Designation (DER, Engine) is preferred.
